It is difficult to put into words what it feels like to gaze down on that precious blue gem, but one thing is certain. It has further ignited the fire that is my love and appreciation for all that Mother Earth has to offer. Before coming to space, I often described the iconic Apollo 8 “Earthrise” photo to anyone that would listen, capturing the first time that human eyes has seen the Earth from above. That image helped unite humankind into appreciating and respecting the fragility of our home planet. Now, having seen it with my own eyes, the need to cherish and to protect it burns even stronger. I wish I could share this view with all of the eyes of all of the humans down on that spectacular surface.
